Don Prince - Recovery Coach in Delray Beach, Florida (FL)

Mr. Don Prince

Profession: Recovery Coach

About Me & My Practice

A large percentage of people leaving an addiction treatment center relapse within the first year of discharge. Nine out of ten of these people relapse within the first ninety days after discharge. One of the biggest reasons for this is a lack of proper aftercare offered by most treatment centers as well as a
the lack of accountability by the client to a responsible and trained professional for them to interact with.
Working with a Recovery Coach can significantly reduce the likelihood of relapse during this crucial period.
Recovery Coaching is this missing link, bridging the gap between an individual leaving a treatment center and maintaining long term sobriety.

Recovery Coaches support positive change by helping anyone including persons coming home from treatment or the criminal justice system to avoid relapse, build community support for recovery, or work on life goals such as relationships, work, education etc. Recovery Coaching is dissimilar from therapy because coaches do not address the past and do not address trauma.

Recovery Coaches:
Do help to initiate and sustain an individual/family in their recovery from substance use or addiction.
Do promote recovery by removing barriers and obstacles to recovery.
Do serve as a personal guide and mentor for people seeking, or already in recovery.
Do help a client find resources for harm reduction, detox, treatment, family support and education, local or online support groups; or help a client create a change plan to recover on their own.
Do help individuals find ways to stop using (abstinence) or work on a harm reduction plan.

"Recovery coaches encourage (but most do not require) participation in groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Al-Anon or non 12-step groups such as LifeRing Secular Recovery, SMART, Women for Sobriety. Recovery coaches do work with individuals who dislike groups to help them find their own path to recovery."

Recovery coaches may work with any type of addict, an alcoholic, a drug addict, a gambler, a sex addict, a kleptomaniac, an over spender, absolutely any form of addiction. There are also niches within recovery coaching such as the coach that works exclusively with families of recovering individuals, or the financial coach that works on rebuilding an over spender's credit rating. There is a strong emphasis with peer recovery support specialists working with individuals that have left the prison system and are attempting to rebuild their lives, and there are recovery coaches who specialize in emotional and financial recovery from divorce.
